Thenovella"DropofBlood"is,withAleksanderFord's"BorderStreet",oneofthefirstnarrationsofthefateofthePolishJewsduringtheNazioccupation.Thestoryaboutagirlliterallylookingforherplaceonearthhasadramaticdimension.Especiallyintheageoftoday'sjournalisticdisputes,oftenmanipulative,lackinginempathyandimbuedwithbadwill,Rozewicz'sstoryfromthepastshockswithitsauthenticity.ThesmallherioneofthestoryistheonlyonewhosurvivesaGermanraidonherfamilyhome.Physicalsurvialdoesnot,however,meanareturntonormality.Herfrighteneddeparturefromtherubbishdumpthatwasherhideoutleadhertoaruinedapartment.Herwalkarounditispainfulbecausestillfreshsignsoflifearemixedwithevidenceofannihilation.Helpisneeded,butMirkadoesnotknowanyoneintheoutsideworld.Hersubsequentattemptsexpressthestateofthefugitive'sspirits-fromhopeandfaith,movingtodoubt,asenseofoppression,andthickeningfear,andfinallytodespair.
